My Self Care New Year's Resolutions


I hardly ever make New Year's Resolutions if I'm honest. I usually set goals for myself for the following years, but never really anything that falls under the 'resolution' category. However, for 2020, as it's the start of a new decade, I thought I'd set some, mainly self care ones. I've been suffering from depression for a few years now and I'm not going to lie, it really gets on my nerves. But there are lots of things I can do to ease it which I just don't do, which is kind of silly really!

So here are some of my resolutions for 2020:

1. Meet my annual reading goal on Goodreads

Last year I really let this fall to the wayside and only ended up reading 14/30 books that I had set myself. I am actually a very fast reader and in theory could have smashed 30 books if I put my mind to it, but as usual I ended up on my phone before bed rather than reading. In reality, reading honestly makes me feel so good mentally, but I still manage to put it at the bottom of my list. This year, I've set myself the same target of 30 books and I'm determined to reach it this time! Not just for the achievement but for my own wellbeing.

2. Walk more

Kind of similar to reading, walking also makes me feel so much better, but I end up skipping it whenever I can. This year I'm going to walk more and for longer. I'm sure Oscar will appreciate it too!

3. Go to therapy

I've been meaning to go to therapy for a while now, and this year I'm going to actively seek out a private therapist instead of procrastinating on it. I think it'll do me the world of wonders.

4. Have a more structured working day

As I'm half self-employed, I'm definitely guilty of working sporadically throughout the day and therefore wasting valuable time when I could be doing something else. Don't get me wrong, I'll still be in my pyjamas, but I'm going to try and sit at my desk and get everything done that needs to be done, as well as investing my time into some new projects.

5. Have a self care routine

All of the above kind of fall into this, but I also want to work more on general self care. Things like making sure I have a tidy house, a skincare routine and taking my vitamins daily.
