The Tea Files - Waldorf Hilton

Recently I was invited down to the Waldorf Hilton (gifted) in London to try their brand new Sugar Plum Fairy themed afternoon tea. They host afternoon tea all year round in their beautiful restaurant, but until the 2nd February they've transformed the menu to create a beautiful Nutcracker theme which is perfect for the festive season!

The tea is £44.50 per person with the option of adding champagne as well. Throughout the tea there was a live harpist playing which was so lovely and really added to the atmosphere, as well as beautiful festive decorations and sparkling trees. There are little hints of the ballet theme scattered throughout the room, including on the centrepieces on the table.

To start, we were presented with a very cool, colour changing tea of rosella and lime! It goes from blue to purple and is a very cute effect. I didn't actually like the flavour of it though, but it was a nice touch.

While you are given this, there is also a teapot on the table with dry ice that's very magical! I can imagine if you brought little ones to this they'd absolutely love it too!

Of course, I always have a hot chocolate, and this one was delicious! Super chocolatey and just the right amount of sweetness, plus there was a little Christmas tree on top!

We were then presented with the savouries which were as follows:

  • Salmon blinis
  • Coronation chicken
  • Tiger prawn
  • Egg and cress mayonnaise
  • Cheese and chutney
  • Peppered pastrami

As my mum and I are pescatarians they happily accommodated us with some replacements for the meat ones. All of the sandwiches were delicious but some of the breads were a little dry, however overall very nice. We were also offered more sandwiches which is always appreciated!

Once sandwiches were finished, we were presented with the sweets! We had spiced orange and raising and classic scones with jams and clotted cream, as well as the following pastries:

  • Biscuiteers Sugar Plum Fairy biscuit
  • Vanilla sugar choux crown
  • Pistachio and white chocolate opera cake
  • Chocolate, yuzu and raspberry mousse cake
Everything was absolutely wonderful! I loved the addition of the Biscuiteers biscuit as they're one of my favourite London based companies. I think my favourite of the others was the pistachio and white chocolate opera cake - it was so light and delicious.

To finish we were given passion fruit macarons which were served on the cutest mini piano that played classical music! The little ballerina even twirled around. It was just the perfect addition to the tea.

Overall I absolutely loved this tea, it was truly magical! Everything was of a fantastic standard and delicious and definitely worth the money in my opinion. The only flaws were the colour changing tea not tasting as good as it looks and the some of the breads being a little dry, but other than that it was brilliant.

If you're looking to prolong the festive season for as long as possible, or if you have a friend who is a lover of ballet or the nutcracker this tea would be absolutely perfect for you! Everything was just wonderful and I'd definitely recommend a visit for it!
