I've Got Bill's

I can't be the only one who thinks of Bill's the restaurant when that song comes on, right? RIGHT?!

Okay, maybe I think about food too much.

Now that Oscar is allowed out on the lead I thought I'd spend an afternoon off tiring him out around Lewes (the neighbouring town to Brighton). Weirdly enough, I actually live closer to Lewes than I do Brighton town centre! I took him out on the lead around the river with my friend, before stopping for a spot of dinner at Bill's.

I'd only ever stopped by Bill's for their famous breakfast, which I absolutely love (you can see a review here), so was a bit apprehensive about dinner after hearing a couple of bad things from other people about it. But, I've always wanted to give it a shot anyway, so this seemed like the perfect opportunity to do so. The Lewes Bill's (the original!) has outside seating as well so little Oscar could fall asleep at our feet in the shade.

We quickly ordered up, quenching our thirst in the hot sun.

My friend went for the seabass, which I was really tempted by. It looked absolutely incredible, panfried and resting on a spring onion and parsley potato rosti, topped with chunky tomato, avocado and caper salsa. I was extremely jealous...

Alongside came the sweet potato fries.

And my whopper of a fish finger sandwich. Let's face it, if you're going to have a British classic such as this, you've got to do it right. And Bill's nailed it.

The biggest, chunkiest flakes of cod sandwiched between two toasted farmhouse and smothered with tartare sauce and ketchup. Obviously there were fries as well.

Of course, it would be impolite to leave without ordering dessert. My friend went for the classic cinnamon doughnuts with chocolate dipping sauce that I've heard so much about! I would most likely have ordered them if the specials menu didn't contain something very special...

Banana split! One of my all time favourite desserts. Of course Bill's put their own original spin on it by sugar-glazing the bananas and serving with roasted peanut butter ice cream, strawberries in maple syrup, vanilla chantilly cream, chocolate sauce AND a pecan crumble...and breathe!

It was unlike any banana split I had ever encountered, super nutty (perfect for me then...) and absolutely delicious.

I'm so happy that I finally got to stop by for dinner, as I definitely now have a favourite spot! Perfect in the summer sunshine with a puppy by my side.

Let me know if you've ever been to Bill's and what you thought! And also that song question I posed earlier. I literally thought that's what the song was about for about a week <insert covering eyes monkey emoji here>.
