YSL: The Scent of Exhilaration

As you all know, I absolutely adore fragrances. I love the idea of pairing certain scents to certain memories and occasions, as well as feelings.

So when Debenhams got in touch and asked if I'd like to review the new energetic YSL Black Opium Eau De Toilette* I jumped at the chance to try it. I have always adored their stunning lipstick packaging and this is no different. Glitter? Yes please.

But what about the scent? Well, it smells pretty damn incredible. The one thing it reminded me of as soon as I sprayed it was Disney World, for some reason! I'm guessing I smelt something similar while I was there a few years ago. But anything that reminds me of my favourite place on Earth has to be good right!?

The scent has top notes of blackcurrant and pear accord and heart notes of orange blossom. It also, strangely has base notes of coffee, which I really didn't think I would like but actually love! It obviously doesn't overwhelmingly smell of a Starbucks, but more of a smokey floral scent. The scent is meant to recreate the smell of exhilaration, so Debenhams asked me to share a moment where I felt most exhilarated...

I actually had a moment recently. If you follow me on Instagram then you'll know that I recently returned from the magical Swiss Alps where I spent a week skiing. Now, other than skiing just generally being one of the most exhilarating activities generally, there was one moment I can pinpoint where I literally felt breathless.

On our first day we had the most glorious sunshine. We ascended the mountain to start our first run, before taking off down one of the most beautiful red runs I'd ever seen. The first part of the slope was challenging, a little steep and rough. The second part, however, was beautiful. There was a moment where the piste narrowed and curved around the side of the mountain, presenting me with the most stunning view I'd ever seen. For a second, I didn't have to think about my technique, I could just admire the postcard perfect scene of snow covered peaks and a blanket of pine trees.

I'd love to know about a moment where you felt exhilarated and if you've ever tried the YSL Black Opium fragrance! If you're ever near a perfume counter I definitely recommend giving it a spritz as it smells truly incredible!
