On Being Different

When I first started drafting this post, I was just going to talk about my clothes, which I probably will do later on. But, as it turns out, I just got back from seeing the new Beauty and the Beast (which, by the way, is incredible) and there was one line that really struck a chord with me.

Now, I can't quite remember the exact quote from memory, but Maurice recalls to Belle about his late wife who, like Belle, was mocked by people, but "imitated her in the end".

I've always been a bit different. When I was younger I took a lot longer to grow up than other girls in my class. I wasn't interested in boys or makeup or bras. I would have much rather galloped around the school pretending to be a unicorn. Of course, I was mocked, told I was a loser and a baby. Funnily enough, going on ten years later, you can't go in a high street store without seeing something with a unicorn on it.

There's nothing wrong with standing out from the crowd. If you've ever met me in real life, you'll know that I'm not exactly "cool". I can't attend a blogger event without knocking at least one display over and I'm usually the craziest person in the room. But Maurice is right. People who aren't afraid to stand out will be the ones who, in the end, everyone wants to be.

Of course, I do want to talk about my clothes! I haven't stopped wearing this beautiful choker from the lovely people at Under the Rose since it arrived. This is the second item I have from them and they never fail to produce stunning pieces. I adore it's simplicity and it really does make the perfect addition to my jewellery wardrobe. Paired up with this beautiful slate grey lingerie and a black ribbon in my hair, I definitely felt a bit like a princess taking these photos. Pretending to be a princess is one thing that's never changed, even from childhood.
