Home Sweet Home, Manchester

Last weekend I took a spontaneous trip to Manchester, just because! I've always wanted to visit more UK Cities and Manchester has been top of my list for some time after seeing quite a few bloggers talking about how awesome it is there.

So, the week before we had a browse online and booked a last minute, two day trip. As I mentioned in my post about big changes, travelling more is one of my new goals and being able to visit new places is one of the best experiences.

We arrived in Manchester around midday and I was immediately taken aback at how incredible this city is. The entire place is so high tech, with free buses and trams interlinking the different parts of the town. It honestly put London to shame!

Of course, we were pretty hungry after the long train journey, so we headed to Home Sweet Home, a restaurant that had been recommended to me countless times on Twitter!

As soon as we walked in I knew that I was going to like this place. Situated in the heart of the Northern Quarter, the decor is modern with a vintage twist, with the classic diner style such as tall shakes and food served in baskets but also with some seriously cool artwork dotted about.

Luckily we weren't asked to use the side door...

Of course I immediately ordered up one of their Oreo milkshakes, which came served in a hefty glass and topped with whipped cream. It was absolutely delicious and for sure one of the best Oreo milkshakes I've ever tasted! It really was a dessert in itself.

We decided to share a main course as neither of us are very big eaters, so we went for the Venice Beach fish tacos, served with guacamole, pico de gallo, chipotle sour cream and Louisiana hot sauce.

These bad boys were seriously delicious but warning! They really pack a punch with the spice! They were so light and fresh and I'm glad we got these as opposed to a burger, as I felt full afterwards but not "roll-me-back-to-the-hotel" full.

We also ordered up a side of french fries that were super tasty as well!

Home Sweet Home are also famous for their cakes which you can order to eat in or takeaway. The waitress kindly offered to take some of the cakes out of their cabinets so I could take photos, which was seriously nice of her!

I mean, come on...

Is that not just a work of art?!

Not to mention the cake that is TOPPED WITH MR KIPLING CAKES.

I'm pretty sure whoever made these was sent from heaven. Cake heaven. Praise be to the cake gods!

Home Sweet Home is definitely a must visit if you're ever in Manchester! The food was outstanding and the vibe is so cosy and welcoming. I was so tempted to return the next day but I felt like I should experience a few places first!

My next couple of posts will also be coming at you direct from my Manchester travels, so keep an eye out for those!
