The Tea Files - The Savoy

I'm back with another instalment of the legendary Tea Files! Well, not legendary really, but when theres cake involved it usually is to me...

This time, we attended afternoon tea at The Savoy in London, the most beautiful hotel set right in the heart of the Strand. We were originally supposed to have tea somewhere else this day, but upon arrival we had a really bad feeling about it so ended up making a last minute booking at The Savoy, something we did not regret at all.

Tea was served in the beautiful Thames Foyer, a gorgeously decadent room filled with plush chairs, flowers and a huge gazebo that looked like something out of a fairy tale wedding! The walls were lined with paintings of Hollywood legends like Marilyn Monroe, Fred Astaire and Alfred Hitchcock.

We were seated to our table where we were presented with beautiful, pale blue china and the most gorgeous teacups.

Hot chocolate for me, obviously!

Similarly to when we visited Fortnum and Mason, The Savoy's afternoon tea contains four courses, so it's truly as luxurious as you can get!

The first course was a set of five finger sandwiches including, from left to right, goats cheese, tomato and pesto, egg mayonnaise, smoked salmon and cream cheese, coronation chicken and ham and horseradish. They were absolutely perfect, just the right size and not a dry corner in sight! They also offered us as many as we could handle (always a Tea Files rule!)

The scones arrived warm, two fruit and two plain, in a little napkin house. Out of all the places we've visited, I think this place has to take the prize for best scones! They were absolutely perfect.

They were served with fresh clotted cream, strawberry jam and homemade lemon curd (which was the best lemon curd I've ever tasted, and that's saying something).

The third course was pastries, and they were brought up on a huge silver tray so you could pick and choose as many or as little as you liked.

There was apple tart with granny smith mousse, salted caramel and chocolate eclair, lemon cream cake, blackberry sponge and a coffee macaron.

I may or may not have taken one of everything...with the exception of the macaron as I'm not a huge coffee fan!

Each one looked like a work of art and was absolutely delicious! By this point, I was so full that I could only take a nibble of each one, but they were incredible. My favourite had to be the apple tart.

The final course was a choice of two Thames Foyer speciality cakes; apple and cinnamon or chocolate Victoria sponge. We both went for the apple and cinnamon and it was absolutely gorgeous, perfectly moist and served with a little oyster shell of cinnamon cream. The perfect touch.

The Savoy definitely impressed and I'm so happy we finally got to try their tea. It really reminded me of the same kind of style as the Claridges tea we had; very traditional but absolutely perfect! For the amazing touches and fantastic service from Sophia and Ed, our Tea Files Rating - 10/10!

We already have our next Tea Files table booked in, so keep your eyes peeled for a new post coming every soon! Let me know in the comments what your favourite instalment has been so far (links below if you want to catch up with all of them!)
