Mama Kelly, Amsterdam

Dress - Missguided

Between our visits to Bath and Amsterdam, my boyfriend and I celebrated our one year anniversary, so instead of doing presents we decided to book a nice meal out in Amsterdam during our stay. I'm not going to lie, I already knew that I wanted to visit Mama Kelly. After seeing it's amazing pink interior on a handful of Instagram accounts, I knew that it was the place for me...maybe not my boyfriend so much, but he could enjoy the food!

It's located on the outskirts of Amsterdam in the Olympic Stadium, which seems like an odd choice but it actually works really well. It's only a short ride on the tram away, so very easy to get to.

We had booked an early dinner at around 5pm, as we wanted to explore Amsterdam a bit during the evening and I wanted to get in early to get a photo too! When we arrived it wasn't exactly bustling, but we were early and it definitely picked up during our meal.

The decor is just something else: all pink and gold with serious Wes Anderson vibes! The bar is just gorgeous and all drinks are served in gorgeous, heavy, crystal glasses. I decided to dress up (of course) but most people were dressed quite casual. I've been looking for an excuse to wear this dress for ages!

As for the food, it was good! I think Tom had a better experience than me with it, as he went for their specialty chicken. Mama Kelly are known for their chicken and lobster! I went for the cod and while it was pleasant enough it wasn't much to write home about. Cod is quite a difficult one as it can be very bland.

I also ordered a side of corn on the cob in garlic butter which I was actually quite disappointed in. I asked the waitress if the butter was coming on the side because it was basically dry and was told it had been cooked in it, but to be honest it was totally bland! I think it would have been better to serve it totally coated in the butter, or at least with an extra jug on the side.

However, Tom's chips and salad were both lovely and he said his chicken was great too, so I think I just ordered wrong!

I'd definitely recommend Mama Kelly if you're ever in Amsterdam, if not for the pictures over everything else! The food is good too and I think if you're into your chicken and lobster you're definitely going to love it! It's also a fab place for group dining as the atmosphere is really lively.

Let me know if you've ever been to Mama Kelly and if you like the look of it! x
