Last week I had the pleasure of heading to the Royal Albert Hall for the first showing of the new Cirque du Soleil show - Kurios. Apparently I have been to one of their shows before but I was so young that I don't really remember it, so I went in with really no expectations of what was to come. My tickets to this show were kindly provided by London Box Office (ad pr).
I'm pleased to say that the show was an absolute delight from start to finish. The theming for this show is heavily Steampunk, with incredible costumes and sets inspired by Victorian England with a technological advancement. Although there is a thin storyline throughout - the tale of a scientist attempting to uncover a hidden world of curiosities - the real star of the show is of course the acrobatics.
The talent displayed is truly outstanding, from high flying trapeze artists, a man stacking half a dozen chairs on each other and balancing on top and a group of mind blowing contortionists. It's hard to pick a favourite because everyone was so incredible and unique in their own way.
I also have to give a special shoutout to the musicians and main singer who perform throughout the show. They were incredible skilled in their individual instruments and really brought the tricks and performances to life with their music.
I think my personal favourite was a girl who swung through the air on a flying bicycle. I found her performance so captivating and magical.
I highly recommend seeing Cirque du Soleil Kurios if you can while it is in London! It was truly a magical evening and the perfect experience for people of all ages.
