I was recently invited down to Aqua Kyoto (ad pr invite) near Oxford Circus to try out some of their amazing Japanese food. Japanese is one of my favourite cuisines and I've been lucky enough to dine at some amazing restaurants in London, but have never visited this one before. I brought my dad along with me for a pre-theatre dinner and (spoiler alert), we were very impressed!
We started off with some salted edamame which were absolutely delicious.
This was then swiftly followed by the black cod gyoza with mizuna miso. These were some of the best gyoza I've ever had, with the crunchy outer shell perfectly complimenting the warm fish inside. They were very light.
Now, I am absolutely obsessed with tempura, so I had to try the rock shrimp tempura. It was absolutely some of the best tempura I've ever had in my life! It's one of those things that I will actually never stop thinking about.
We were then presented with the most incredible sushi platter I've ever seen - this was the chef's selection of sushi and sashimi. I've never really been a big sushi person, but this platter on its own managed to convert me to sushi. Everything was absolutely delicious - so light and fresh. Well done, Aqua Kyoto, you've officially converted me.
Then it was time for some larger dishes. We went for the matcha green tea soba noodles with edamame, Japanese mushrooms, onion teriyaki and tomago. I can't even describe how flavourful these noodles were. They were absolutely amazing!
I also ordered the baked sea bass with ginger, butter, tamari and yuzu carrot puree. This combined with the noodles was the ultimate combination. Perfectly cooked and so delicious.
Of course we also had to order dessert! We both had the chocolate bomb which was lovely. Very rich and chocolatey.
Overall, I would highly recommend Aqua Kyoto. The food was absolutely incredible and probably some of the best Japanese food I've eaten in London. Have you ever visited? x
