The Crab Tavern, London

I feel like lately my boyfriend and I are making a fun habit of having foodie date nights around London. As two lovers of the city, it's fantastic to visit places we've never been before. So, when we were kindly invited down to the Crab Tavern in London to try out their new menu, it was the absolute perfect opportunity for a date night!

The restaurant is located in the very busy Broadgate Circle near Liverpool Street, and was an absolute hub for businessmen and women drinking after work. We went on a Friday so the whole place was absolutely rammed, but I'm not sure if it's like this all the time.

With a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc ordered up we were positively starving!

For starters we both ordered the Fried Black Pepper Squid with lemon aioli and it was super delicious. Perfectly cooked and crispy. I feel like I've had a weird obsession with deep fried squid lately and this definitely filled that day's craving.

It wasn't long before the mains arrived. I went for the pan fried stone bass with razor clams, lemongrass foam, puree and crispy carrot. The fish itself was super delicious but there was a bit too much of the carrot puree, which overpowered some of the other flavours.

This was also the perfect opportunity for my boyfriend to try lobster for the first time! He went for the grilled whole lobster with garlic butter, chard lemon, fries and salad.

I mean, how magnificent does that look!?

My only criticism was that the lobster was a little bit overcooked, but the chips were delicious.

And of course we had to have dessert! My boyfriend went for a passion fruit sundae...

While I went for the Eton Mess which would have been absolutely delicious except they broke the cardinal rule of Eton Messes: DON'T PUT DARK CHOCOLATE ON AN ETON MESS. I absolutely hate dark chocolate and it didn't say on the menu that the whole damn thing was going to be covered in the stuff. I basically spent the whole time trying to pick it off, but what are you gonna do.

Overall I'd say that The Crab Tavern is a definitely a good lunch spot for a casual meal, and especially if you fancy somewhere with a lively atmosphere. Although not everything was quite as good as it could have been, it was definitely yummy and I'd probably head back!

Our meal at The Crab Tavern was complimentary in exchange for a review but all opinions are my own.
