Press For Champagne

One place that's always been on my foodie bucket list is Bob Bob Ricard. You may have spotted the restaurant and it's famous button on a few other foodie blogs, well renowned for it's luxury English and Russian cuisine and the extensive menu of champagne options. Because of the latter, I decided it was the one and only place to take my mama aka the finest connoisseur of champagne in the world (I think so, anyway!).

I booked the table as a treat for Christmas, but we also ended up going for my birthday, so it was a bit of a joint holiday celebration. As soon as we entered from the cold streets of Soho, we found ourselves in the stunning art deco dining room, complete with booths that made us feel like we had boarded an old fashioned train.

And of course, there was the famous 'Press For Champagne' button. The most luxurious button in the world really!

Sure enough, we pressed and...ta da! Champagne!

Mama was overwhelmingly excited at the idea of this button and she may or may not have pressed it again that evening...

We had a browse of the amazing looking menu before making our picks. It was a Monday when we went, so there weren't many other people around, but the quiet atmosphere was just as lovely as a busy one.

Soon, the dishes arrived. Mama went for the pan fried sea bass and seared scallop, served on a bed of peas, broad beans and roast pepper puree.

I have to say, I tried a bit and it was absolutely amazing! I was a bit annoyed with myself that I didn't order hers, but mine was just as fantastic.

I went for the chicken kiev, which doesn't sound at all like something you would order in a high end restaurant, but somehow they managed to transform this dish into something incredibly special; roasted baby chicken stuffed with sweetcorn mousse, garlic and tarragon and served with a cranberry and red wine sauce. The flavour combinations were absolutely superb, with the sweetness of the chicken's centre contrasting the sharpness of the sauce.

We also ordered up a side of fries which I regretted slightly after ordering instead of the truffle mash. Next time!

As well as the crushed peppered sweetcorn. If you order one side, make it this one! You may think sweetcorn is a bit of an odd choice, but my gosh this stuff was incredible! Honestly, the best sweetcorn you'll ever try.

While mama wasn't up for dessert, I always am and I was so excited to try the Eton Mess En Perle. I have to say, it did not disappoint...especially with the showmanship!

Crack open the pink meringue sphere to find cream, strawberry sorbet, raspberry and the fluffiest little marshmallows you ever did see! It was honestly a work of art and tasted incredible.

The wonderful staff also kindly surprised me with a little birthday treat, complete with sparklers! I believe it was passionfruit mousse and was so yummy...but my favourite bit had to be that it was pink and glittery! The closest thing to a Lush bath bomb I've ever put in my mouth.

If you're not much into health food, but you are into champagne (10 points if you get the reference) Bob Bob Ricard is 100% the place for you! It's the most stunning restaurant with the most delicious food & fantastic service that is bound to be a winner with everyone. They do a Sunday roast that I am itching to try, so I may have to return soon...but make sure you book in advance because they fill their  tables quickly!
